Video Ad Serving Template, or a spec originally released by the IAB in 2008 to standardize communication requirements between ad servers and video players and ensure they can talk to one another. The intent was to protect publishers from having to continually update their video stack in order to receive ads from servers using a wide range of communication protocols.
